Obama to address pro-Isael group AIPAC

ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE -- The White House says President Barack Obama will address the pro-Israel group AIPAC's annual conference in Washington on Sunday.

Obama spokesman Jay Carney told reporters traveling with the president that Obama will not deliver a major policy speech, but will instead talk about the deep bond between the U.S. and Israel.

Obama will deliver his remarks following a week focused heavily on the Middle East. He meets at the White House with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as well as Jordan's King Abdullah, and will speak about the popular uprisings in the Middle East in a speech on Thursday.

With the resignation of George Mitchell, Obama's special envoy for Middle East peace, there are new questions about the administration's prospects for securing an accord between Israel and the Palestinians.

that AIPAC should be registered as representing the interests of a foreign government, I have no problem with President Obama speaking to them.

6. You are probably right

about it sending a bad message. It will be considered offensive to a segment of people. Yet it would be offensive to another segment if he failed to speak to AIPAC.

What might be the best would be if President Obama used the opportunity to speak some harsh truths to the group. Sad to say that this is probably unlikely.
