How much recess do your local schools have?
Edited on Mon May-16-11 12:11 AM by pstokely
We had 2 15 minute periods a day in grade school (K-6) when it wasn't taken away. Sometimes we got more. We had indoor recess in bad weather. I guess they still it here since they have new playgrounds but I don't know how much. We would usually have a 40 minute period of PE once or twice a week.

fortunately they have eliminated jungle gyms, dodgeball and kickball...dangerous activities detrimental to the young apparently.

9. It"s A shame
I had a whole lot of fun playing on jungle gyms, and dodgeball and kickball. These children are being robbed of their childhood.

I had 2 15 minutes in the morning, 40 minute lunch, 10 minutes in the afternoon and PE 2-3 times a week.
High School had 5 minute breaks between classes.

Here in Korea the kids ahve 10 minutes between each class 1st-12th

8. In the '70s, High School was recess. Open campus - no mandatory attendance, like college
It was freedom to come and go. Mostly, we were gone. Things are way different with my kid, today - it might as well be Korea.

3. I'm not exactly sure how long recess is for my son in first grade
But I know that he spends it walking around in a square formation with the rest of his class on an asphalt parking lot.

6. In my day there was no recess
We also walked to school every day 10 miles, up hill both ways, in 2 feet of snow, and we were grateful.

:D:hi:

7. When I was in grade school back in the late 50s/early 60s,
we had recess twice a day in a great & maybe in today's standards, dangerous playground; gym twice a week; alternating art class & music class; and we walked to & from home at lunch time; and no homework.

10. The elementary schools here have ...
... 20 minutes recess every day. At the school my children went to (my youngest is in high school now), if the weather was not good, they would spend that 20 minutes sitting in the auditorium.

At least they did have about 30 minutes of gym class every day.
