I am curious....
What is everyone's opinion of Code Pink?

Mine is quite low and I believe they are an impediment to the Democratic Party, that is, when they are not actively dogging Hillary Clinton or occupying Nancy Pelosi's office.

4. I am talking about DU rules...
not Code Pink's mission statement.

A poster here previously claimed that Code Pink is a "respected Democratic organization". I claim it has no affiliation with the Democratic Party, for good reason.

8. Jesus, dude...
DU rules state that members are required to be generally supportive of the Docratic Party. In your post, you asked why should we care if Code Pink is an impediment to the Democratic Party.

No mind reading is necessary.

You already have formed your untethered opinion that Code Pink is an impediment and cited your only reasons.

It's nice to see you out yourself.

48. I'll try to follow the twisted patterns of (as it were) thought.
Any manifestation of disagreement with acts made by Democratic officials -- SPECIFICALLY the most right-leaning acts made by such officials -- should not exist in any way, shape, or form, or else Sarah Palin becomes president and it will be 100% the fault of the Left. Not the Right (who would have been the ones who voted for the hypothetical bogeyperson) because criticizing the Right in any fashion makes Nordic Baby Jesus cry.

5. For Activist Causes to be Successful,
Edited on Sun May-15-11 09:28 PM by On the Road
I think that they need a variety of supporters. Some can be offensive, in-your-face, and out there. However, to actually get causes written into law requires politicians who can gather support, negotiate, and cut deals. Either one alone doesn't do it.

Purely from a pragmatic point of view, Code Pink may serve a useful purpose. Even more extreme groups can help precipitate change. The unveiling of the Statue of Liberty was disrupted and cut short by suffragettes in boats. But they eventually won suffrage. Ted Rall said that if all the opponents of the Iraq War were rioting in the streets before the invasion, it would have been less likely for Bush to have gotten the go-ahead.

In the long run, extremism can sour the general public on an entire party or movement. But in judicious amounts, it can be effective.

Like Trotsky and all the original principles of the Russian Revolution, The Party must purge itself of all the values of The Party so that Eurasia doesn't destroy us--or that scourge Emmanuel Codepinkstein.
