Just returned from a driving tour through the LA-MS delta

River is very high, some seepage along the levees, some backwater flooding in the tributaries. You see people here and there making preparations, loading furniture on trucks, etc, but there's no sense of panic or impending doom. For the most part, people are taking it in stride and going about business as usual. More than anything else, there are a lot of sightseers out and about.

1. What else can you do?

:shrug: Just grab what you can and get out of the way. But where do you go and how do you pay for it. Your job washed away too.

2. My life was flooded twice as a child and made a huge impression.

The 2nd time our home was buried to the eaves in silt and my parent's small rural businesses destroyed without insurance.

The second flood in 1964 was like a BC/AD event.

In the mid 90s, I spent several days on what was not normally an island and was expected to be flooded in Oregon along the Willamette.

I was so stressed from my childhood I could not sleep and went every several hours to check the sticks to measure water level even in the night. We were fortunate.
