<snip>
The head of the International Monetary Fund, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, was taken in custody on Saturday, minutes before he was to fly to Paris from John F. Kennedy International Airport, the authorities said.

He was accused of a sex attack on a maid earlier in the day at a Times Square hotel, the authorities said.

Mr. Strauss-Kahn, a candidate for president of France, was taken off an Air France flight by officers from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and turned over to Manhattan detectives, according to a Port Authority spokesman. He was expected to be taken to the offices of the Manhattan Special Victims Unit at P.S.A. 5 in Manhattan, another official said.

20. BINGO! He's a SINO...........
Of course most non Marxist (and quite a few Marxist ones :))socialist parties are pretty useless because they're tools of the bourgeoisie. They just use a "working class" face to help the exploiters keep the workers under control.

11. I have to read more about this story, but just knowing this guy is running against
Nicolas Sarkozy who is considered an extremely unpopular president because he backs the rich, and this guy doesn't... I don't know, but I wonder if this could be manufactured....

" Nicolas Sarkozy is the most unpopular president in the 50-odd-year history of France's fifth republic. Damned as the bling-bling "president of the rich" who championed the market on the eve of its greatest crisis in the postwar era, barely one in five think he's doing a good job.

There is even speculation that he may not stand for a second term. And whatever bounce the embattled president might derive from his new role as a war leader in the Libyan conflict is thought unlikely to last. But although the main opposition Socialist party led the field in countrywide local elections last Sunday with 25% of the vote, while Sarkozy's centre-right Union for a Popular Movement scored a humiliating 17%, it was the far-right National Front that registered the strongest advance, coming in less than two percentage points behind the ruling party. Already the Sarkozy camp is in disarray about how to respond to the front's success, having failed to win back supporters with attacks on multiculturalism, an anti-Roma migrant campaign and a legal ban on the Islamic face veil. In some polls, the front's new leader, Marine Le Pen, was ranked second for the crucial runoff in next year's presidential elections."http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/mar/24/new-europe-france-french-left

26. The guy is 62. Are we seriously supposed to believe that a man of that age would/could rape
someone?

Do men of that age rape women?

Am I just naive?

not a "socialist" in any way shape or form.

he's more like those rich kids who joined something vaguely socialist in the 60s & then became conservatives in the 80s. reverting to type, if they weren't just spies in the first place.

15. dominque strauss-kahn? wow. i wonder what the backstory is on that one.
Edited on Sat May-14-11 08:00 PM by Hannah Bell
i've always speculated that he was some relation of the strauss & kahn banking families but not able to get enough genealogical info to confirm or disconfirm.

it's my memory his wife anne sinclair had an interesting pedigree but can't remember the details now.

i'm going say I don't believe or disbelieve this report on first glance. it's possible. also possible there are some kind of dirty tricks involved.

27. Well, no, it's not "typical" behavior for a man of *any* age.
Most men are not rapists, so rape is never "typical" behavior. But a 62 year old man is certainly capable of raping someone. Why are you eager to jump to this guy's defense?

28. not defending, but doesn't it seem odd for a guy with all that power
to do something so blatantly stupid? My first question was whether he was drugged or had an underlying pathology.

Shit, he could've hired a hooker to role play his fantasy. Why throw his life away? It just doesn't make sense. But that doesn't mean he was set up.
