Is It Really This Bad?
I'm old..but the brain still works. Yes, there are very bad things going on economically and hitting all levels of government from D.C. to the local school district (thanks to the repuke's pushing this country over the cliff). BUT, every goddamn state that has a Repuke governor shifts the furniture around to come up with ungodly tax breaks and cuts for the ultra rich while screaming WE CAN'T AFFORD ANYTHING ANYMORE and taking a knife to "the people". If things really are collapsing that bad, it would not be possible to do that. You would have to cut everyone and allow no further reduction in revenue (and perhaps raise a little more of it). In other words, we are being heavily conned by scare tactics. It's like trying to scare us into balancing our household budget by killing off one of our kids. Americans are willingly slitting their own throats and that is frightening.

3. The nostalgic Republicans are making their last push

They have a few years left before the younger generation takes over this country, and that generation is for the most part liberal on many, many issues. This is why we are seeing the tide shift on GLBT rights, clean energy, etc.

No wonder the Tea Party feels "threatened" and wants to revert to 1950's white suburban America.

4. Harmony--Bingo!
I've felt for a long time while watching the repukes literally go on a suicide mission that they know their time is up and like our beloved banks, they are grabbing for as much of the brass ring as they can before they leave the 'baggers' holding the bag!

5. It seems to be-
I can't quite grasp how or why they need to squeeze the very last drops of blood from our stone. How do they value wealth so much that they will allow our system to collapse? I can't understand the mindset behind this. I wonder sometimes if I could be this greedy if ever given the chance. It seems to be the nature of some. I can't imagine it, though am never surprised by some humans' natures.

6. I think about this a lot and can't make any sense out of it
but the idea that they are grabbing everything that isn't nailed down before they are thrown out makes some sense.

7. Government in DC.
Edited on Sat May-14-11 04:45 PM by sendero
.... is totally captured by monied interests. To make matters worse, way too many Americans still believe the UTTER BULLLSHIT AND PROVABLY WRONG idea that tax cuts for the rich "create jobs". If that were so we'd be swimming in jobs right now as the rich are paying less taxes than ever.

This problem will continue until there is a second French Revolution only in a different country this time.

11. You are leaving out the part where so many of our
Democratic "leaders" are actively colluding with the Republicans.

The fact is - every single one of our Senators are millionaires. Yet the tax bills that are written slam the middle inocomed folks, while leaving the wealthy alone.

It is even worse in California where huge enterprises like Disney pay property taxes based on the tax assessment of whatever date in the fifties and the sixties that Disney bought the land.
