7. Which totally bemuses me.
I mean, what did they EXPECT to see? And why was seeing (essentially, so far as I could tell) what they expected to see, so SCAAAAAA-AARY? Scream-worthy, even.

I mean, I could understand a little scream from the lady on the stairs who had her packages grabbed and dropped, that was fairly startling and even intimidating, but...

A naked guy shouting? Izzat scream-worthy? Really?

I mean, is the male anatomy in and of itself threatening?

Frankly, I always thought that the male anatomy, in and of itself, azzit were, was rather, um... well, silly-looking. All those dangly bits flopping around, yanno. And the plucked-chicken look of the rest of it.

Well, whatever.

amusedly,
Bright

11. This is pretty unusual, even by NY standards.
I've lived in NY all my life and I haven't seen people get naked on the subway before.

20. Well, my HS graduation was the occasion of a mass streaking...
...so maybe I'm just de-sensitized. People used to get naked in public a lot more when I was a kid.

At least, it seemed that way.

nostalgically,
Bright

22. Exactly, tygr. I thought it was pretty funny when everyone started screaming
when he took off his briefs. Like they've never seen a naked man before. Geez! :eyes:

What was his grievance? Anybody know?

16. Well, he ripped her bag away from her and slammed it to the ground
He looks like he snapped so maybe he'll go to a hospital unless he's just an angry drunk.

One afternoon I was going home from high school on the A train. All of a sudden there was a commotion at the front of the car. A man was being chased by a teenage girl who was beating him with her belt. That was the early '60s so it was one of those wide leather belts. He ran through the crowded car and they disappeared into the next car with her still beating on him.

You see all kinds of scary stuff on the NYC subways but I never saw a fully naked guy. Only a flasher who whipped it out one time. =:-0

Fun City: Crazed Naked Guy Terrorizes New York City Subway Passengers

A crazed naked man seen menacing New York City subway passengers on a scary new viral video was handcuffed and transported to a Bronx hospital last week, but not charged in connection with the bizarre incident, according to police.

Warning: The above video contains profanity and nudity and is NSFW.

The man’s May 2 outburst occurred on a northbound 6 train in the Hunts Point Avenue station in the south Bronx. As seen in the video, which was originally uploaded to YouTube by a straphanger, the man yelled racial and ethnic slurs as he finished removing his pants.

After hurling himself into a set of doors, the man took off his boxer shorts, which elicited squeals from shocked observers. As a police officer was talking on his radio, the man bolted from the subway car and accosted a woman walking up a stairway. After slamming a package of hers to the ground, he lunged at a man walking perilously close to a platform edge.

Edited on Wed May-11-11 05:23 PM by tblue37
he was drugged up, that might be too dangerous for his heart.

Most Taser uses are so obviously wrong, yet in this situation, when the naked guy was charging and assaulting bystanders, the cop didn't reach for a Taser.

40. You go stand in front of that guy with or without a uniform.
The cop could have fought that guy on his own, but it wouldn't have went well. Thankfully the bystanders got involved.

The cop doesn't carry a taser, so his only hope was his gun or help. I think he made the safest decision possible.

41. His job is to protect people. He was completely unwilling and unable to do so.
That is why I called him useless.

He was of no use = useless.

He made the safest possible decision for HIMSELF. Meanwhile he allowed the guy to rush around and put everyone else at risk.

What if the guy had grabbed a baby, shoved someone off the platform?

That cop was USELESS!

45. Probably making some effort to contain him in the train would have been a good start.
Once he let the guy get out of the train uncontested, he was opening up the possibility of more victims and chaos.

He did not even try to block the guy.

Doesn't he have a nightstick? Pepper spray? Something?

Ever see this video from a pirates game? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lVJSoexC1k

Nightstick isn't the best way to go in this situation. He doesn't carry a taser. Pepper spray might have worked, but this guy looked dangerous. A gun definitely would have worked. It was a shit situation for the cop.

47. I watched the video. What's the point?
Yes, it was a shit situation for the cop.

I'm just saying that I saw no evidence at all that he is prepared or sufficient to be carrying out the role as a protector of people on the subway.

He was passive and frightened.

Yes, the guy looked dangerous. MUCH more than that guy at the baseball game! But all the more reason that he should have been dealt with instead of what that cop did which was basically to let him run amok.
