Had enough? Get involved.
I love you guys. I really do. I spend a lot of time on DU and I try to read almost everything, even the stuff I don't necessarily agree with.

I still feel the outrage of our rights being compromised, if not outright taken away, whether it's women's rights, working, civil rights, the Tea Party, any democratic officeholder not doing his/her job representing our interests or any conservative trying to make us prisoners of the corporate powers. Getting upset is the match to the fuse.

Last night, I joined an organization that not only will give me a productive outlet to effect change, but will likely get political results.

It's a political group dedicated to empowering women through involvement in the political process. Its primary mission is to increase participation, establish a strong foundation, and achieve equality for Democratic women to give a voice for women involved in the government and politics of regional, county, state, national government.

This may be my first group but it won't be my last. Education is necessary. Participation is what you do with your education.

Please consider becoming part of the political process yourself. Not like Teabaggers. Help make and promulgate your policies.

1. Recommended.
Last night, I posted about my experience in running for a seat on our school board. (My opponent is a Tea Party member.)

When my youngest graduates from high school, I'll move up to state office. After 4-6 years there, I'll try to take the next step.

6. Your local democratic party is a good start.
Get on subcommittees such as workers rights, campaign finance reform, public education. And see if the party can steer you toward a gender-neutral political organization that helps get democrats, liberals, progressives elected.

Or run for office such as board of education, council, mayor.

Go to public meetings, take notes, and capitalize on any deficits of policy.

5. Agreed.
The events that have unfolded in Wisconsin this year have inspired me to do exactly this. I am participating in the recount as much as possible, signed up for my first state Democratic Party convention and plan on being MUCH more involved locally. I'm trying...

8. Become a Voter Registration Officer...
Edited on Wed May-11-11 07:43 AM by Scuba
Process for becoming certified varies by State. Use your search engine of choice with the question "How do I become a voter registration officer in (state)?"

First-time voters lean way left, hence the Republican efforts to make voting more difficult Registering new voters helps our cause immensely.

9. Join your local Democratic organization and start working
on their GOTV projects. That's the most effective thing you can do, frankly.

10. Plenty of involved women want to relegate abortion to the penal code.
Involvement for the purpose of advancing the correct public policies is the key measure.
