The subjects need to be de-programmed
Many people in this country have been programmed by many years of partisan propaganda. Talk radio was and is one of the main tools in this education program.

These programmed robots are no longer able to reason for themselves. They let their "Party" do their thinking for them. For their "Party", they discard the most important things in their lives. They discard security, jobs, rational thought, education, and everything necessary to be a responsible citizen.

It is a disturbing development. Never in my memory have I seen so many people willing to follow their leaders down a path of ruin. History means nothing to them. Even recent history has been wiped clean from their memories. The "other side" is the enemy. They are not "legitimate", they say.

If these people cannot be reached or re-educated, what are the hopes of saving this country? No, there should be no tax increases on the wealthy. No, we should not raise the debt ceiling. No, we should not cut the defense budget. We are spending too much. We should only cut the programs that help people and the society. We should stop building things that can only be build by the people at large, such as the Hoover Dam or the Interstate Highway System. We should never attempt to send a man to the moon. All progress should cease. Our "Party" tell us so.

1. So many that can no longer thing for themselves
Unable to form their own opinions and views simply because they have been repeatedly told what to think.

Citizen's United ruling and it's horrific potential for undermining the last vestiges of what shred of our "representative leadership" that remains, I've been thinking that perhaps a sort of "muted" campaign could be initiated by progressives.

If only one ad was pre-emptively promoted to compare a couple of the quips of campaign slogans of the RW gubernatorial candidates who are currently eviscerating the rites of working people are contrasted and compared it could easily made cogently clear that most campaign advertisements are totally BS and could be summarily muted as soon as they are identified.

All Robo calls could be disconnected.

That's my deluded fantasy anyhow.

4. It's not just the media. It's ignorance willfully sought
It's the idea that opinion is equal to facts. They believe that it isn't necessary to educate themselves with facts because all they have to do is express their opinions which can and for the most part are be based on nothing more than what they want to believe. They believe that validates, or maybe it just erases their ignorance as unimportant.

8. Pat Robertson
Back in the RayGun days, he told them to go out and take over town councils and school boards. Then work their way up.

Couple that with the Family showing those that would leverage that population how to accomplish the leverage with notions like biblical capitalism and divine providence, simmer a couple of decades and eventually you have a stew that is the manna of the talibornagain.

But you know that, lol.

9. It was a rhetorical question offered in the spirit of shared outrage.
As for 20th Century technology, I forgot machine guns, and for 12th Century ideas - Pat Robertson.

7. I heard a very strange conversation at my car dealership over the Cash for Clunkers initiative.
Salesmen on the floor didn't know what to think. "We'll have to see what Rush has to say." Seriously. They gave up thinking for themselves a while ago.
