ST. PAUL - Health care advocates will join Governor Mark Dayton Tuesday to celebrate one of his first actions as the state’s chief executive: providing health care coverage for 100,000 Minnesotans.

During his campaign, Dayton pledged to do something that outgoing Governor Tim Pawlenty refused to do: sign the Medical Assistance “Opt-in” to access federal funding to expand coverage for low-income men and women.

The “Opt-in” is a provision of the federal health care legislation passed last year by Congress. TakeAction Minnesota, which has been organizing to promote health care reform, said taking advantage of the federal provision will benefit some 100,000 Minnesotans.

TakeAction members and others plan to join Dayton as he signs the measure Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the state Capitol rotunda.

“Join us to celebrate better health care for 100,000 Minnesotans, jobs for health care workers around the state, and Governor Mark Dayton's first full day in office!” said Liz Doyle, policy director for TakeAction Minnesota.
