1. They have some funny sketches but
you have to wade through a ton a crap to find them. You might as well wait till they release to best of on DvD in a few years.

3. I thought it would be special so I tuned in.

I haven't seen more than 30 seconds of SNL in one stretch in the last twenty years. I thought there might be hope for a good show tonight with Tina Fey hosting and with all the material available to them this past week. Wrong. I could only handle about five minutes before turning it off.

6. I used to do that, way back when
Then it was every decade, and now it's every two decades. Yep, not missing anything.

7. It's been Saturday Night Brain Dead for years.
It's been going consistently downhill since Eddie Murphy left.

8. I used to watch SNL from the beginning
Anyone who doesn't think there has been some crappy shows from the beginning has no idea about the show. Trust me, there were some stinkers even with the original cast.

12. I remember I was the person I hung around with that wasn't 18
back in the Fall of 1975. I had my first apartment and I was by myself this one Saturday night. Turns out it was the First SNL and I saw it purely by accident. It wonderful because the comedy was off the wall.

What I remember most from that first show was the muppets from hell.... They did this sketch where a big muppet was gulping down little muppets.

17. not as frequently as there is with snl the last few years
very occasional stinkers on the first cast -- but each new cast has gotten worse and worse. It's unwatchable now.

10. It's unwatchable
Ever since it became a spontaneous singing/dancing show.

11. I liked most of tonight's show
But the last half hour was as sucky as many of the shows have been. The first hour is pretty good, although the Betty White show from last season was the best one in many years.

14. Best way to watch SNL is
to follow mediaite. If SNL actually does something funny, they will have it.

15. SNL has never been funny to the generation that is watching it.
It's always funny in "retrospect" and then mostly for nostalgic reasons.

Of course there are the exceptional skits that people do find funny currently, but they're rare.

18. the original cast was considered very funny by the generation watching it.
And if a show has gotten so bad it's only *retrospectively* funny -- it's time to shitcan it. IMO YMMV.

Edited on Sun May-08-11 02:13 AM by gauguin57
But I still watch and hope ... mainly because they have some very talented cast members.
