Not just the normal type of crazy. If they lose hope, they'll vote their hearts instead of their heads. That's very good for Obama. I think it would be a mistake for the republicans to take the short view because things can change, but it's possible.

1. Would that be the political equivalent of the Hail Mary pass?

3. Its like a ball club being down 15 to 0 in the 7th
and they want to save their relief pitchers for the next day, so they send their backup first base man out their to pitch for an inning or two.

9. And if you are a Cubs fan, that goes double.
I am sure you have heard "A Dying Cub Fan's Last Request."

I raised my kids to be ready for anything life can throw at them: they are Cubs fans and Democrats.

Cubs over Reds 3-2. O yeah ain't the Sox 11 games out of first and 12-22 on the season? What happened to all those "sluggers"?

10. Here's the deal the way I see it. The rethugs will nominate a second or third stringer and Obama
will "win." Then, in 2016 there will be a veritable stampede of rethugs and Jeb Bush will be nominated and he'll "win" leaving everyone to believe that there has been a hard fought campaign.

12. Jeb Bush will never become president
I don't think the Repukes will ever let a Bush run for president again. The leadership is not as stupid as they sometimes act.

16. I agree. What about replacing Biden on the ticket with a good candidate
Edited on Sun May-08-11 12:00 PM by NYC Liberal
who is interested in running then? It'd give them 4 years as VP to run on in 2016.

I like Biden but perhaps he could be given some other post if he wanted it.

15. I think that's what happened
in 2008.

Not with McCain so much, although that's possible.

But I do think that once it looked like Obama was on a roll, they figured it didn't really matter who the VP candidate was. And it would probably be better if it weren't someone who would have had the "stain" of losing on him.

After John Kerry "lost" to Bush in '04, didn't he pretty much lose some kind of validation for running in '08?

They're not going to chose somebody people will associating with losing, and if Obama looks unbeatable in '12, I don't think they'll waste a candidate who might actually have a shot four years later.

So really...IMO, Palin was expendable. And she got used. I'd feel a little more pity for her but she did allow herself to be used.

It'll be interesting to see who the new Palin will be

17. McCain didn't follow his mavrickness
Edited on Sun May-08-11 08:33 PM by Renew Deal
He wanted Lieberman, but the party opposed it and Palin was recommended. I think McCain should have run the campaign he wanted. He still would have lost.

The craziest the republicans can go is Cain. I don't think it will happen, but if Cain is the candidate, the election is over. DUers believe Romney will win. But Romney has many problems. He's been on the both sides of every issue. Republicans like to pick on him for his health care plan. He's not a Christian. A non-christian has never won in the US and the US has a very rough history with Mormonism. But if they don't go with Romney, where do they go? If they want a serious candidate with some credentials they'll pick Pawlenty. If they want to go ideological and teabagger they'll go Cain. Gingrich is a disaster and doesn't stand a chance. Palin is a disaster that will split the party when she loses.

I haven't seen a Republican candidate that is both a good candidate AND can win.
