Lina Lamont revisited
Okay, so I was enjoying watching Singing in the Rain. The character played by Jean Hagen, Lina Lamont, kept reminding me of something or someone. It was getting annoying as I couldn't quite grasp what was causing that sense of semblance. Until near the end of the film, that is. When the nasally Miss Lamont queried, "Do ya think I'm dumb or sumpthin'?" I knew exactly who it was. Suffice it to say, in another time and place the phrase would have been "You betcha." Heh.

1. Did that actress win an oscar?
She did an outstanding job. What a character!

Her phrasing is part of our family lexicon. "I caaaan't staaaand it!"

2. She was fine comedic actress
and quite intelligent in reality.

She also had a fine singing voice. If I'm remembering correctly, she actually did the singing for Debbie Reynolds when Reynolds is supposed to be doing the singing for her.

3. Close
It was the romantic dialogue that Reynolds was supposedly dubbing that was actually Hagen's real voice.
