I received a certificate of Appreciation from a former student who is graduating from college
totally out of the blue. It is framed and has the official college seal. Was a really nice surprise and totally unexpected. I haven't had this student for 5 years. She is a really beautiful young lady and is graduating with honors. I am so very proud.

4. it looks like something you can add with your grad invites!
it was so awesome and a really nice gesture. It makes what we do worthwhile.

My teaching philosophy is that I make a difference in even one child I have succeeded. :)

6. My brother was one of those "one in a million" teachers
that changed the lives of many of his students.
Many former students can to speak graciously of him when he unexpectedly pasted away.
Consider yourself among a select few of the very best mentors of our future citizens.

5. I had a teacher like that, but she was a Navy wife and moved
the next year....I would have loved to let her know of my college years...because of her and her alone, cause I was a loaner and she seemed to 'get me'

Good for the student who honored you, and good for you to have encouraged her!

I have received similar surprises. They really help with on motivation side of things don't they?

When I get discouraged I remember instances like this.

9. What college?
My younger son attended the University of Tulsa, and at graduation three different high school teachers, as I understood it they were high school teachers of kids currently graduating, and were honored at graduation itself. I was impressed.

11. Oh--it's teacher appreciation week!
I received an email the other day out of the blue from a former student.

Not as formal as a certificate, but it was very sweet.

Now I see--they're showing their appreciation for former teachers.

As a former sub, I know these surprises help keep you going. You must be an amazing teacher. Pat yourself on the back, and do something nice for yourself this weekend.

18. I should add, I taught her when she was a Freshman in High School
Edited on Sun May-08-11 09:35 PM by demtenjeep
7 years ago. I have had brief contact with her here and there throughout the rest of her High School career, but this really touched my heart because it is not like I had her in recent years.

I can't wait to see her get her 4 year college diploma Saturday!

He was considered tough but fair.

So many kids need discipline and don't get it from home.

I have some teachers who are dear to my heart still after all these years.

Rest in peace Mr. Blake- he went with the first few waves of AIDS victims.

Congratulations to you! You must be doing something right.

20. That's really great.
What a nice surprise. It's been over 10 years since I graduated high school, and I fail to remember much about specific teachers. I graduate college May 2012. I would say that I have a couple of professors there that have made a big impact on me, where I want to end up, the few that I went out of my way to choose to take more courses with them. My law professor is by far a stand out. Always a big motivator and willing to help in anyway. She wrote a glowing recommendation for me a couple of weeks ago when I was applying for a scholarship. I was actually taken aback. She's even still finding international intellectual property right articles that she knows I would like and leaving them for me to read.

One of the neatest things my university does, is the top graduates (from both the traditional and the adult night courses) are given a chance to give an award to their "Outstanding Influencer." The school says that you didn't do this all on your own, you need to recognize those that helped you along the way to really succeed. I think it's just a special thing to do. :)
