All the GOP ever had going for them was fear
If they can get the majority of Americans panicked with fear of some bogeyman like bin Laden they win. Every time. If they can't do that they lose. Every time.

People are realizing they prefer a competent President like we have right now over a daddy figure goofball like Bush was to many of them.

That is why the recent developments really hurt the GOP.

First they became hysterical. Now the reality is setting in for them.

It is all they ever had. And now they don't have that.

1. Good thing their fascist cronies spent the 80s and 90s buying control of most broadcast media so the
fear and lies could be catapulted freely and....often.

3. And our problem is that some pooh pooh fear.
Why can't we simply emphasize competence in confronting it instead of discounting it?

4. Of course it would kill them to develop real policies and a platform
that didn't consist entirely of tearing down everything society has constructed to keep us out of chaos.

5. Although I agree with your general point...

I don't believe they've been disarmed by recent events. With the election campaign just gearing up, the fear mongers are working overtime to explain why we should shit our pants over an elevated level of terror, Democrats Godless ways, and "wasteful spending" that will undo all the great things Buxh accomplished through eight years of fighting the "tax and spend liberals".

I know it's ridiculous, but in Ohio we're already suffering commercials showing Obama and Nancy Pelosi in menacing black & white footage while a solemn voice-over explains how her and " her friends in congress" are going to drive up gas prices through heartless tax increases. It's all nonsense, but it apparently works on those who pay only passing attention.

On edit: The threat of "tax increases" that will raise prices at the pump is clearly their tactic to win approval for corporate welfare and feign public support in their fight against the Dem's attempt to roll back oil subsidies. To the GOP, recinding a tax cut is always a tax hike.

6. I guess you didn't listen to Obama's address Sunday night.
The War on Terror will continue. An endless 'war' based on fear.
