A Bin Laden Hunter on Four Legs
A hero on four legs.

Man's best friend, unless that man was Osama bin Laden.

A Bin Laden Hunter on Four Legs
By GARDINER HARRIS
Published: May 4, 2011

"The identities of all 80 members of the American commando team who thundered into Abbottabad, Pakistan, and killed Osama bin Laden are the subject of intense speculation, but perhaps none more so than the only member with four legs.

Little is known about what may be the nation’s most courageous dog. Even its breed is the subject of great interest, although it was most likely a German shepherd or a Belgian Malinois, military sources say. But its use in the raid reflects the military’s growing dependence on dogs in wars in which improvised explosive devices have caused two-thirds of all casualties. Dogs have proved far better than people or machines at quickly finding bombs.

Gen. David H. Petraeus, commander of United States forces in Afghanistan, said last year that the military needed more dogs. “The capability they bring to the fight cannot be replicated by man or machine,” he said.

Maj. William Roberts, commander of the Defense Department’s Military Working Dog Center at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, said the dog on the raid could have checked the compound for explosives and even sniffed door handles to see if they were booby-trapped."

Another story on the possibility of Seal Team Six's canine member from the Sidney Morning Herald:

2. Oh noes! We insulted Islam by using a dog to hunt down bin Laden in his house!
As if it wasn't bad enough for us already to "invade Pakistan and violate their sovereignty" to find Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad, and it wasn't enough for us to shoot a "meek, harmless, defenseless, unarmed" Osama bin Laden, thus denying him "his right to a fair trial". And as if it wasn't enough for us to then "violate Muslim burial practices" by tossing his corpse in the ocean. No, we weren't content with all these dastardly offenses - we also had to bring a dog into a Muslim's house.

A DOG WAS BROUGHT INTO A MUSLIM'S HOUSE, PEOPLE!

What did Osama bin Laden EVER DO to merit such heinous treatment??? Remember, he's presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law! Also, I understand he was often spoken to roughly as a child by his parents, and sometimes the servants acted like they didn't hear him when he called for them.

We must hand Barack Obama over to the ICC in the Hague for immediate trial as a warcriminal. Right NOW!

3. Why can't the dog get his story straight?
Maybe he sniffed out the body that has been dead for 8 years.
and what did that nice old man ever do to anybody?
shameful.

7. K9 Jaws?
Heard they supposedly outfitted these dogs with sharpened titanium teeth, to give them enough bite to get through protective gear.
