GLOVERSVILLE -- A Franklin Street man with a history of assault, harassment and robbery charges will be able to at least temporarily keep his dog after he was arrested Thursday for beating the canine on his front lawn while neighbors watched, authorities said.
Police said Kevin Johnson Jr., 21, of 14 Franklin St. was charged with "overdriving, torturing and injuring animals," a misdemeanor, after police said he repeatedly struck his dog in front of his house. The dog will stay at Johnson's home unless a judge rules otherwise, police said. Johnson is scheduled to be arraigned in Gloversville City Court on May 16.
Johnson has been arrested seven times since 2004 on a variety of charges, including: burglary, disorderly conduct, assault, harassment, marijuana possession, criminal contempt, grand larceny and aggravated assault.
