Milwaukee Urinal / Sentinel begins requiring Facebook login to post blog comments.

The JS rightly wants to hold users more accountable for their posts. Requiring Facebook login is their answer.

Here's my email voicing my opposition. Are DU members seeing this elsewhere? Thoughts?

Dear JS,

I am strongly opposed to the JS's new policy of limiting blog comments to Facebook users.

Firstly, there is no reason for this. If JS wants to hold commenters more accountable, you can do that without the involvement of Facebook.

Facebook has had multiple, serious, breaches of confidentiality, and with their extensive data base, has been rightly called "the most extensive spy network in the world". Requiring JS bloggers to be Facebook members exposes them to these abuses.

Respectfully request that you discard this avenue.

Thanks,

Scuba

2. I have a special FB "alter ego" account set up for situations like this

Oh, and for making fun of teabaggers in general, mostly on pages like "The White House", "Sarah Palin" (banned from that one), "John Boehner", "Glenn Beck", etc.

She's a real firecracker, too.

5. How do you do that?
I go directly to my FB account. How do you handle two? I know teachers who do it so their students don't have their private info. But I have no idea how.

6. You just need to register with a second email address

You should also use different browsers for each account to help keep straight and handle any auto-login to sites like this.

I use Chrome for my real account and IE for my alter ego.

3. I've not seen it but I think it's a great idea for local papers!
I actually don't care so much about blog postings as I do the comment sections in the daily police/gossip articles. Most people would not be so judgmental, haughty, and cocky if they weren't anonymous!

4. They don't want strong or honest opinions.
They know Facebook is used by employers.
