ghost pepper and tear gas
many of you here may be familiar with the (at the moment, anyway) hottest pepper on the planet, called the ghost pepper, or bhut jolokia, from india.

I had been trying to get it for some time, only to be told there were problems with the harvest, etc. today, I was able to locate some at one of my favourite spice suppliers. when I commented on the lack of availability, the owner told me that the indian gov't had bought up most of the supply to use in making tear gas. amazingly enough, this is correct.
. . . . .

The thumb-sized “bhut jolokia”, which can be utilized to remedy stomach issues, is going to be utilized in order to subdue suspects while using tear gas-like grenades.

The newest crowd control grenade is loaded with ground seeds belonging to the bhut jolokia pepper.

The bhut jolokia or the ghost pepper is formally identified as the hottest in the world by Guinness World Records.

When used, the grenade showers the crowd with a dust particles so hot that in tests people were blinded for several hours along with causing breathing problems.

The pepper grenade is actually a non-toxic weapon and when employed would induce a terrorist to come out of their hideout simply because the effect is so pungent that it will physically choke them.

In India, the world's hottest chili is not just for curry, it's also for fighting terrorism. The indian military used it for a substance similar to tear gas. They say the pungent smell will immobilize suspected terrorists. The so-called ghost pepper packs a powerful punch: 100 times hotter than the spiciest jalapeno.
