the killing of crazy horse
wednesday marked the 120th anniversary of the wounded knee massacre (as noted here on DU)

interestingly, I turned on book tv this morning and caught a few minutes of author thomas powers, discussing his book, "the killing of crazy horse" http://www.booktv.org/Program/12074/The+Killing+of+Crazy+Horse.aspx (unfortunately, I can't figure out how to link to a video of it)

one of the things that interested me was his comment that, as a journalist who reports on the intelligence field, it is rare to find, in most cases, actual discussion of plans to assassinate a given figure--everything is oblique, implied, hinted at. he said that it was rare to find overt discussion, as there was in the case of crazy horse. he also pointed out that there is a great deal of information on the government's policies with regards to the lakota/dakota/nakota peoples, covering a period of about 40 years, mostly military records.

a most disturbing and enlightening talk.

3. 19th Century Afghanistan
See the US is military is not much different today than it was massacring the Native Americans in the 1800's. In the 21st century we are simply trying to herd everyone in Iraq and Afghanistan onto reservations so that US corporations can loot the natural resources of those formerly independent countries. We have just continued moving the raping and pillaging so far west it is now east. If we keep going that direction it looks like we should be back to the east coast in about 10 years.

The question I have been asking myself this past year is: "Is America fundamentally evil?" Not Americans, but the social structure and economic framework run by the plutocracy that lets us pretend we are a democracy. It is extremely disheartening to say the least, to believe that we have not put genocide and wars for profit behind us.

4. America needs 4 or 5 planets to support its habit. This what the
numbers suggest, by numbers I mean numbers related to the supply of and destruction of natural resources.

John Trudell

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ku8ga-krBe4

Here are the lyrics.
credited Trudell/Sahme (aka Quiltman)
Crazy Horse
We Hear what you say
One earth one mother
One does not sell the earth
The people walk upon
We are the land
How do we sell our mother
How do we sell the stars
How do we sell the air
Crazy Horse
We hear what you say

Too many people
Standing their ground
Standing the wrong ground
Predators face he possessed a race
Possession a war that doesn't end
Children of god feed on children of earth
Days people don't care for people
These days are the hardest
Material fields material harvest
decoration on chains that binds
Mirrors gold the people lose their minds
Crazy Horse
We Hear what you say
One earth one mother
One does not sell the earth
The people walk upon
We are the land
Today is now and then
Dream smokes touch the clouds
On a day when death didn't die
Real world time tricks shadows lie
Red white perception deception
Predator tries civilising us
But the tribes will not go without return
Genetic light from the other side
A song from the heart our hearts to give
The wild days the glory days live

Crazy Horse
We Hear what you say
One earth one mother
One does not sell the earth
The people walk upon
We are the land
How do we sell our mother
How do we sell the stars
How do we sell the air

Crazy Horse
We hear what you say
Crazy Horse
We hear what you say
We are the seventh generation
We are the seventh generation

Mark Shark slide guitar and percussion
Ricky Eckstein Keyboards and percussion

19. I haven't seen it yet but this story has been an interest of mine
since we passed around the banned copies of "In the Spirit of Craze Horse" in the late 80s. Maybe I can see it at lunchtime.

20. 120 years is nothing

the Greed DNA lives on

So do the Lakota/Dakota/Nakota and others.

i like to celebrate that they live on while I also grieve their plight and pray their situation vastly improves

Thanks for the thread
