This was an assassination mission into a place which by all rights should have been heavily guarded and extremely dangerous for the assailants. It was the very headquarters of the commander of a worldwide armed force, our enemy. Even if the team going in was given solid intelligence that the people inside would be unguarded and unarmed, they could not act as if that were the case, because to be just a little wrong could prove fatal for the SEALs.

Everybody in that place--including the wives and children--were potential combatants, and it was to the credit of the SEALs that they were as discerning as they were.

As I have said before and will keep saying, capturing OBL alive certainly would have led to every group affiliated with him taking hostages in an attempt to broker an exchange which was not going to happen, which would certainly lead to the deaths of more innocent people. All of us have lived all of our lives seeing news stories and reading articles about the hostage exchange gambit.

Osama bin Laden's life was not worth the life of one innocent person, let alone many, and not one SEAL. He had to die.

But no, I'm not happy with the Department of Defense's usual bullshitting, either. I had hoped they would leave that behind with their previous boss.
