Mike Huckabee defends comparing Holocaust to debt crisis
Source: Raw Story
By Eric W. Dolan

Fox News host Mike Huckabee said Tuesday he would not apologize for comparing the federal debt to those who did nothing to stop the Nazi death camps after he was condemned by a prominent Holocaust awareness group.

Over the weekend, Huckabee gave a speech to the National Rifle Association in Pittsburgh, where he explained that at Israel’s Holocaust museum he looked over his daughter’s shoulder and saw her write, "Why didn’t somebody do something?" in their guest book.

"We cannot afford to be a generation that leaves our children with nothing but a huge debt and the very erosion of the freedoms that our founders and our fathers died and gave us so valiantly," he then said. "And that’s why I say, 'Let there never be a time in this country where some father has to look over his daughter’s shoulder and see her ask this haunting question: Why didn’t somebody do something?'"

The Anti-Defamation League, which devotes itself to fighting Holocaust deniers and revisionists, condemned the comparison.

5. The equally stupid and even more loathsome Michele Bachmann
said much the same thing the other day. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/05/02/ap/congress/main20058924.shtml I don't know if she stole it from Huckabee or vice-versa, or maybe they both got the line from Faux News or Glenn Beck. No matter - it's disgusting.

9. Earth to Huckabee
He says: "We cannot afford to be a generation that leaves our children with nothing but a huge debt and the very erosion of the freedoms that our founders and our fathers died and gave us so valiantly,"

First he already is part of a generation, but more importantly the party whose policies and spending left his children with nothing but debt. He had no problem with spending and increasing debt under Bush. Republicans spent like drunken sailors ran up huge debt and hid most of that debt by keeping the war off the books. But now republicans are worried about debt and instead of asking for sacrifices from the super wealthy or from corporations that could afford to pay a little more they want to strip the already suffering working class of the social programs they need now more than ever.

And eroding our freedoms? Really? What party is OK with illegal wiretapping, torture, rendition, and is working hard to strip women of the right to choose?

Anyway I really don't get the whole "We want to save our grandchildren from a life of debt" bit by doing away with medicare and social security. All that would do is burden those same grandchildren with caring for their elderly parents and having to work harder to prepare themselves for a life with no safety net. Where their ability to retire, survive disabilities or temporary unemployment, afford health care when they are sick is determined by the vicissitudes of an unregulated market. Who would advocate such a thing given the economic events of the past few years? Republicans are Insane. And their followers fools.
