Americans love nothing better than congratulating themselves, so let’s. And in the same spirit that Republicans congratulate Bill Clinton on his budget surplus, should we congratulate Bush too for bin Laden’s demise while we’re at it? Sure, why not! Liberals believe that everyone should get a trophy! Is that Mission Accomplished banner still around? We can put it up again now for him.
We shouldn’t tease about the banner. That was, after all, for a DIFFERENT thing that wasn’t accomplished when it went up. That would be the trillion dollar detour through Iraq on the way to avenging 9/11. The scenic route. The reason Bush didn’t catch bin Laden was because Pakistan was hiding him. That, and because we were looking for him in Iraq, and not exactly him, but a DIFFERENT bad guy. It’s complicated. I’m sure it’s all there in Bush’s book.
And that trillion dollars shouldn’t be marked up against Bush, either, because it was ‘off-budget.’ ‘Off-budget’ meaning ‘on-Obama’. Anyway, congratulations too, Mr. Bush!
