Claim: H.B. to blame after 2 men drowned at

Families of two men who died after swimming in rough water last August say there weren’t enough lifeguards on the beach. Lifeguards scoured the water for hours and even sent up a helicopter for the search.

The families of two men who drowned in Huntington Beach say the city is responsible for their deaths because there were not enough lifeguards on the beach and the men were not protected from the dangerous conditions in the ocean, among other allegations.

Shao Moua, 20, and Johnshua Lee, 24, both of Banning, went swimming near Tower 3 at about 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 28, 2010, with two other people and were knocked down by a rip current, according to the claim.

Huntington Beach had high surf, rough currents and poor visibility on that summer day, the claim says. The police incident report says one of the men rescued told officers none of the four men had substantial swimming experience. City officials said both claims are under investigation and no action has yet been taken by the city.

7. Everyone is so insulated from nature now
Too many people believe the outside world is just a Disneyland theme park with safety rails and fences.

*sigh*

We never even had life guards on the beaches where I grew up. You learned to analyze situations for yourself.
