They don't have the death penalty there so the only way bin Laden could have been extradited to the US was if the US had waived the death penalty in any court proceedings. Unless they made an exception for this case which they might have?

Then I would have wanted to see him tried in an open court for any crimes he may have been indicted for. And if found guilty he should have received the harshest sentence we could give him. Life in Supermax with no opportunity for parole. To me that is much worse than dying quickly.

That would have been my preference. Of course that is just probably one of many the reasons I am not president.

And I still do not support invading Afghanistan either. Never did.

2. I'm glad he's dead.
Not overjoyed, mind you, but just quietly satisfied that a grim, but I believe necessary, action was taken and completed.

3. Any court trial here would quickly become a three ring circus
and in the meantime, the republicans would insist he be sent to Gitmo because he might escape.

4. Maybe Scotland... who could then set him free with a note from his doctor...
...just like they did the Locherbie bomber. :sarcasm:

Nope, I think the way OBL was handled was just about perfect.

6. in your opinion, life in prison is worse than death?
Edited on Wed May-04-11 12:36 PM by provis99
So why do death penalty prisoners regularly appeal their death sentences in an attempt to get a life sentence? Frankly, on MSNBC Lockup, life in a Supermax looks pretty good.

If you want to be anti-death penalty, then fine, but don't insult us by pretending that life in prison is worse than a death sentence.

I wasn't on DU and didn't know anyone else who thought it was a horrible idea.
