My thoughts on the death of OBL and collective introspection.
Edited on Tue May-03-11 07:18 PM by Liberal Veteran
I'll flat out say it: I'm glad he's dead.

Osama bin Laden resigned from the human race of his own free will when he chose to plot the deaths of civilians to make a statement.

I don't mourn his passing, nor the method by which that passing took place.

There is a time for introspection. I certainly welcome it as a necessity to the evolution of our society, and indeed our species as a whole to aspire to greater things in life than violence.

I'll leave that for academics to ponder over.

Osama bin Laden had the better part of 2 decades to turn himself in and stop the bloodshed. He made his choice. His death is nobody's fault but his own.

I understand and respect that some have moved on to introspection and even second guessing.

It's easy to play "what if" games.

Maybe someday I'll feel like revisiting each detail of this.

For my part, I want to savor a moment in time when a twisted charismatic ideologue and fanatic who inspired others to horrible acts is no longer hovering around the shadows of our collective reality.

Osama bin Laden proved the warning "live by the sword, die by the sword".

I think that pretty much sums up where I am. If you think less of me for it, I can live with that. We are all given free will and our driven by our own conscience.

For the time being, the world is now a better place from my vantage point.

I can live with that.
