We shouldn't bother arguing about how the killing took place
everything they're telling us is just a story. They tell us one thing, that's one story. Then they change it to something else, that's just another story.

Maybe they have a good reason for telling these stories. Maybe it's an important part of the propaganda war.

But there's not much use in us getting upset about, or excited or proud about, because it's not what happened.

Maybe in a few years some consistent credible accounts will come out from the SEALS that were there, or other witnesses.

1. Agreed, first I heard on TV Osama himself was firing guns
Now the story is he was unarmed. OK....get the story straight at least before you put it out there.

6. I'd like to see the jury screening for that trial
If someone has never heard of OBL then they are too stupid to be on a jury in the first place. Where would you try him? Do you think the asshole would actually say something? Remember Saddam Hussein's trial. HE was always yelling and rambling. Then they banned him from the courtroom. It was a joke. They ended up hanging him in the end.

13. Actually, I would rather see international terrorists like
him and dictators like Ghaddafi tried in the world court, not in American courts.

4. or maybe...
People should not expect first reports to be Gospel. They are always incomplete and incorrect on some details... Always. This is not because of anything other then word getting out before everything is known.

5. It's all pretty much speculation
It happened pretty fast with bullets flying.

And those speculations are being spun and twisted and reworked to fit whatever agenda is being pushed by whoever feels they need to push an agenda.

14. Here is one of the more detailed acounts:
http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/05/03/white-house-corrects-bin-laden-narrative/?hp

Speculation usually happens in the absence of facts which is one reason why getting those out in good order should be a priority.

11. i did say, maybe there's a valid reason for the military to constantly lie to us
so I did give Obama a break.

I'm just saying don't get all worked up over their lies, as if what they tell us is what really happened.

16. no, you said they lied.....
I am saying that it can be difficuly to get to the facts right after an event like this.....it takes time to sort everything out.

9. Thinking out loud here. How does one build a million dollar
compound in Pakistan and no one knows who is living there? No asked questions or speculated? OR. Was his whereabouts known all along and this was his "house arrest" compound? Was he allowed to live if we were allowed to use his persona as our tool for militarily engaging the entire region?

10. They would have had to debrief all military personnel before knowing
all the facts. I wouldn't take anything as fact until all of those accounts are in and verified. Until then it's this guy saying this, this guy heard that.

12. I got into this today...
at work a teahdist asked me why it was ok for Obama to authorize the Assasination of OBL, who by all accounts now was unarmed and since there were no US casualties it appears that OBL could have been taken alive but was murdered instead.

The teahadist insisted that he personally had no problem with this because justice has been served. However he lit into me about why is it OK for Obama to authorize Assasination which is strictly against the Geneva Convention but it wasn't OK for Bush to authorize waterboarding.

How is Bush a war criminal but Obama is not frankly on some levels I found it hard to answer the criticism....

The good news we both agreed that this should be an end to the war, so maybe there is some common ground.....

15. The media is obsessed with details, as usual.
Hounding the press secretary, let it be for now, debriefing people and putting all the pieces together, takes time.
They admit the regrettable errors, but they at least admit it.

17. Personally, I think we should dispense with such niceties as 'due process of
law' and simply execute anyone accused of a capital crime without bothering with a trial. If questions arise after the fact, we can then say the person executed was "resisting arrest" or "engaged in a firefight".

:sarcasm:
