6. no
that gesture is well known in body language.

1) Deceit or the act of withholding information can sometimes be indicated by touching the face during conversation

2)If the person who is speaking uses this gesture, it indicates that he is telling a lie. If, however, he/she covers his/her mouth while you are speaking, it indicates that he/she feels you are lying!

I make that precise gesture when I'm taken aback or shocked by a thing. I imagine we often see what better validates our opinions-- regardless of the subjective nature of our own inferences.

The video feed they get in the "war room" is from drones/spy satellites, not from the helmet cameras on the soldiers. It was described as the spooky green night-vision videos you see in movies.

shocking, anxiety-filled, etc.

I wonder where it comes from in the psyche? The reflex to cover the mouth? I should read about this somewhere.

However, the moment I saw this picture, it conveyed a thousand thoughts to me, on a primal level.

Also, the most compelling visage in this ensemble is clearly the President - if that isn't a white-hot laser focus of intensity, I don't know what is.
That is the reflection of a brain fully engaged in complexity.

I really wish we would know one day what they are watching - it's an interesting study, isn't it?

Edit to mention: the only person in that room not transfixed on the foreground is the man actually running the operation.

I don't begrudge feeling emotion. But that is not the expression of a leader. Sorry. I really adore her, but she's not handling this well.

18. Dog forbid a politician show genuine emotion.
That is the expression of someone concerned about something they are seeing. Quite possibly that is the expression of someone seeing someone else get "double-tapped" in real time. If the expression is honest, then it's the expression of a leader. This bullshit notion that you have to be stoic about everything is just that, bullshit.

I like Hillary, I like Obama, neither was my choice for a President but saying her expression isn't one of a leader is just downright silly. Maybe we need a bit more compassion in our politics.

21. Coincidentally the Wikipedia entry for double-tapped mentions bin-Laden
Edited on Tue May-03-11 06:07 PM by Urban Prairie
"On May 1st, 2011 Terrorist Leader, Osama Bin Laden was killed by US Navy SEAL's (SEAL Team 6) using the double tap method."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_tap

So perhaps that is exactly what was transpiring in the moment captured in the image.

47. That's not what I said. If you read my post you'd know that.
I said very clearly that it was not an expression I would want to see in a leader when making decisions that could kill our people and others. I mean, you'd have to be able to handle. I know I'd look like that, but I wouldn't want that in my leader. I don't see anything wrong. You have to be able to have a poker face and give up nothing. And her picture....gave up a hell of a lot. Of course it was in privacy. But her horror made me nervous.

43. that is a look of horror and concern.
The last time I saw something on TV that shocked me and I covered my mouth in horror, was the day I turned on the TV and the planes had hit the World Trade Center on 9/11.

A lot of those people in the briefing pictures had "HOLY SHIT!" expressions.

People are now realizing how hard the President's job is in foreign relations and wars and spying and all that.
They have to make very difficult decisions that the public will never know about.
