Rising gasoline prices a win win for Big Oil.
Not only are they raking in tons of extra cash in the past year, they are scoring political points for their friends the GOP. The higher the price at the pump the more political damage to Obama and to all the democrats in Washington. How much of the windfall wealth the oil companies are sucking up right now, will end up in the GOPer's political pockets before election 2012? We are paying for the GOP's campaign in 2012, at the gas pump NOW.

1. Riding bike a lose lose for big oil
Just do it -- screw them and their unsustainable, polluting, overpriced gasses.

3. I work 40 miles away from where I live.
I bike in the city (Chicago) where I live, but I work out in Will County. If I *COULD* ride my bike out there, I would. But until then, may many people HAVe to drive to get where they need to go. Just riding a bike is no cure-all.

4. I hear ya
Do your buses/trains/els allow bikes in Chicago? In the Twin Cities, our buses/light rails can carry your bike on board so you can usually get close to your destination, and then bike a shorter distance.

I'm not a rabid bike freak but it is a great solution to combine fitness and transportation -- and I guarantee the higher those gas prices climb, the more I'll be riding...

6. Nah - I've researched every possible public transport route.
If I had the time to take a (no exaggeration) three-hour commute each way every day, involving three transfers, then I'd consider it. Unfortunately I'm also a full-time grad school student and I'm doing an internship as well. So no dice on that. Really, I'm not complaining - I enjoy the drive in - gives me some the only time I have to listen to music and the traffic is rarely all that bad (beleive it or not!)

If I lived in the confines of the city, though - you'd better yer as I'd be biking to my job, even in the winter.

8. My longest bike commute was 14 miles one way
At a workplace that had a locker room w/ showers, which made it way easier!

Not having access to those kind of facilities does make things more complicated and requires a lot of extra planning/dedication/time.

5. I haven't heard that the Republics in the House are calling for any investigations.
While I heard they were currently in charge up there, I haven't noticed that they've done much of anything, either. Nothing positive, anyway.

7. More $400 Mill retirement packages for Big Oil execs?

Lee Raymond got one from Exxon when people without jobs couldn't afford food or gas.
