17. Not by a long shot...
Google image is your friend...

One of these things is not like the others... but all are in Pakistan, and all have been called mansions.

25. The inside matches the outside perfectly...
Sparse, no decoration. NOT a mansion, inside or out.

2. Location-location-location
For Pakistan, that "may" be a "mansion".. Probably "compound" would have been a better word to emphasize.

3. Compound really is the better description.
Mansion definitely implies some kind of swankiness.

8. Wikipedia definition of mansion
A mansion, manson or manor is a very large dwelling house. U.S. realtors define a mansion as a dwelling of over 8,000 square feet (740 m2). A traditional European mansion was defined as a house which contained a ballroom and tens of bedrooms. Today, however, there is no formal definition beyond being a large and well-appointed house.

11. In Pakistan, which is poor as hell, that is a mansion.
Its also a compound. You should see some of the mansions in the Philippians. They're all walled compounds, a bit "swankier" than in Pakistan by US standards but don't forget we are one of the richest nations. Compared to other places, say Jamaica (I'm picking poor counties at random here) our poor people live like kings.

My first thought of the compound was "what a dump" too, I had to get over a little bit of culture shock to realize that's high living in Pakistan. Its all relative to where you are.

15. The interior is sparse and ghetto-ish as well...
There is nothing that says luxury in any of it. Sparse, austere, and similar words don't come close to giving the story. I've seen better looking housing projects.

26. That was the price paid in 2005, BEFORE the real estate crash
OBL was so upside down on his mortgage he couldn't afford to sell and move some place nicer or less conspicuous. I hear he spent his last years plotting revenge on his realtor, not the U.S.

On another subject, if that place which looks like a small prison is a top Al Qaeda "mastermind"'s idea of a safe, inconspicuous hidey-hole, then the rest of the network should be easy to roll up.
