5. I fully expected it would be fast-tracked.
But a 1-day turnaround, especially from the other side of the world, is pretty amazing. It's not like a 1-hour photomart.

8. If you have the controls
ready to go and validated you can run and analyze a good DNA fingerprint in just a few hours.

9. Controls meaning ---? Samples from other bin Laden relatives?

10. Yes
the longest part in running a validated DNA fingerprint is making sure that you can prove that the target sample (Osama) actually matches properly with the control samples from a relative or a crime scene.

I'm sure they've had the relative matches set up and validated for years all they would have had to do is run the target sample and match it.

4. I think they put a RUSH on it.
I have no idea how long it takes to get a DNA sample tested.

6. In most murder cases, they always say the results won't be back for
two weeks or so.

I fully expected this one to move to the top of the list, but one day is pretty dang quick. Especially when you have to match it up to DNA from other Bin Laden relatives.

12. It takes 2 weeks because of all the gathering of controls (as said above)
processing all of those and then doing the comparison. With everything set to go to get a match, running one sample will not take that long, especially if you have a dedicated system at your disposal.

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration used DNA testing and other means to confirm that elite American forces in Pakistan had in fact killed Osama bin Laden, the mastermind behind the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, officials said Monday, as the world absorbed the stunning news.

14. Buried at sea?
Buried at sea perhaps, but they probably got a hair sample off him to verify the DNA.
