I'm serious. Of course I'm glad that they finally got him, but will it change anything for any of us? If so, what? No snark, just real actual answers, please.

People will still be homeless and hungry and unemployed in America. Soldiers will still be in foreign lands away from their families. The rich will still have their tax breaks. The corporations will still be outsourcing our jobs and destroying our environment.

But bin laden is dead, so... so ... so what?

3. Some people who lost loved ones during 9/11 will find some solace in this news.
I am hoping President Obama will use this as an excuse to leave the Middle East.

5. That is a good, valid point. The families of those who've been lost
have good reason to celebrate this, of course.

Been doing it since before the Greeks.

10. The catharsis of distraction has always
had a special place in this country. People are chanting, "USA!" over and over. That's what is wanted and needed to bond them to the corporatism neurologically. Pavlov would agree.

Why not just let people enjoy it for the moment when a person they have learned to hate is declared dead? It can serve to be symbolically moving when it is clear that concrete realities are not going to change for the better and the slope will be getting more slippery.

So, on with the "wars" and more power to the MIC. The "defense" contractors won't be losing any sleep over their profit margins because of this. In fact, any "ramping-up" on the war of terrification will be easy to justify, fund and further, now.

Hopefully it will allow the US to reduce the number of troops in Afghanistan/Pakistan and focus on the problems you mentioned right here at home.

However, unfortunately I don't believe this will be used to draw troops away from the region. The Taliban still has a foothold. Terrorism will still exist and religious lunacy will not die with one lunatic, for there are many waiting to step up. But I don't see how we can remain there perpetually. I think it's time to clearly state our goals there and if this was the main goal - of capturing/killing OBL, then Obama can very legitimately claim victory and use it as the reason to leave. I'm not optimistic but I hope this will be enough to get us out.

& close up our bases.
