It's official - deadliest tornadoes ever
could also be the costliest tornado outbreak ever.

CNN just had a gentleman from a school for autistic children on - he said the regular drills saved all students' and teachers' lives.

1. Well except for that little out break in 1925
The Tri-State Tornado of Wednesday, March 18, 1925, was the deadliest tornado in U.S. history. With 695 confirmed fatalities,<1> the tornado killed more than twice as many as the second deadliest, the 1840 Great Natchez Tornado. The continuous ≥219 mile (≥352 km) track left by the tornado was the longest ever recorded in the world: the tornado crossed from southeastern Missouri, through Southern Illinois, then into southwestern Indiana. While not officially rated by NOAA, it is recognized by many as an F5 tornado, the maximal damage rating issued on the Fujita scale.

2. Not sure
Up to last night there were 350 plus dead and over 500 missing.
CNN said deadliest ever so I'm assuming most of those missing are dead.

3. I certainly hope that they're wrong about the missing
Also keep in mind that in 1925 the US had 1/3 the population of today and in 1840 we only had 17 million people here.

4. That wouldn't change the fact that more died here if
CNN is correct although you'd have a per capita argument.

8. Also the argument
That people now have a lot of storm awareness and there was a lot of warning. Many people did the right thing (center room, lower floor, bike helmet, etc) and still died. Building codes are better now. Many of the injured now would have died in 1925. Does that offset the per capita argument? Dunno.

Cabinet members including Janet Napolitano are receiving a warm welcome in Smithville Mississippi on CNN now.

Go FEMA!! Go housing, small business, agriculture - impressive.

6. You're thinking like a Democrat.
You haven't considered how many dollars have been killed by this tornado storm. Think about the losses the insurance companies have already suffered, think about the losses incurred by businesses unable to open. Now start thinking about how much money contractors, storm chasers, and other advantageous, i.e. capitalist, people stand to gain. Now you should be happy.

:sarcasm:

Many times it's well worth the fee to retain a public adjuster. I do it for any large claim on my commercial properties.

22. I spend
hours and hours every day teaching homeowners how not to get fucked by their insurance companies. It amazes me that the public is so scared of the insurance companies that they don't even want to file a claim. What a beautiful fucking scam they have going in this country. They get paid premiums every month and the homeowners are afraid to file claims because they fear they will be dropped. WOW what a fuckin racket.

they need to start designing houses and buildings in a more aerodynamic manner, instead of the sharp corners and block shapes.

It still wouldn't withstand a direct hit by a tornado but I believe the structural damage and loss of life would be reduced.

I also believe as storms become more intense so will their offshoot tornadoes.

Thanks for the thread, malaise.

13. That seems most logical to me, they had the good sense of not
believing in the suicidal illusion of disconnection between themselves, their actions and the natural world.
