Donald Trump pushes back at prez jokes

By MAGGIE HABERMAN | 5/1/11 12:41 PM EDT Updated: 5/1/11 12:47 PM EDT

Donald Trump

Donald Trump pushed back Sunday at President Barack Obama for making him the "focus of the evening" in his White House Correspondents' Dinner speech, and laced into Saturday Night Live comedian Seth Meyers as a "stutterer" whose delivery was lacking.

Trump's comments came in a quick phone-in to "Fox and Friends," a day after he sat almost stone-faced while the president and Meyers ripped him repeatedly, to belly laughs from the crowd. People at tables around him gaped at him watching for a reaction, and some of his tablemates wrote on Twitter that it was uncomfortable.

"Well, I really understood what I was getting into — I didn't know that I'd be virtually the sole focus," Trump said. "I guess when you're leading in the polls that sort of thing tends to happen. But I was certainly in a certain way having a good time listening. I don't think the American people are having a good time with $5 gas. ... I was thinking to myself as they were doing this, you know, the American people are really suffering and we're all" having fun at a gala.

<snip>

Prior to the dinner, after he strolled the red carpet with his wife Melania, Trump said that he actually didn't think he would get poked by the president.

47. Indeed! VERY typical bully. Can dish it out alright, but can't take it.
And if donald trump is that reckless, thoughtless, brainless, and incompetent about anticipating trends and reaction to his verbal assaults, how good a "president" could we expect him to be? Swaggering into that banquet telling everybody Obama's not gonna touch him that night? Just what was he drinking in his limo on the way there? Did he arrive at the Correspondents Dinner fresh from frontal lobotomy surgery or something?!?!?

Hey donald-DUMB-ASS, what's gonna happen when you run off at the mouth against Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, or Dmitry Medvedev, or Nicolas Sarkozy or China's president Hu Jintao, or some such international figure - and then you strut in somewhere like the UN or some international conference with your bully swagger thinking "I Sure Showed HIM, Didn't I!" Any idea how they might decide to respond, and how catastrophic it might be for our national interests? Probably not, because donald-DUMB-ASS, you're incapable of thinking past the tip of your own nose.

Couldn't even anticipate that you'd be ONE of the targets last night? ONE of the targets, donald dear. Not the sole target. Actually, the whole evening's entertainment did NOT center specifically on you. DANG! That asshole can flatter himself even through other people's insults. I've never seen a case of myopia this bad, and I was born with with a pretty bad case of it!

3. That would have been the correct decision of President Obama.
Instead of continuing distraction,

He had the high ground saying he was against such distractions.

Considering the venue, Obama's remarks were perfect.

45. I just saw his comment.
Edited on Sun May-01-11 03:51 PM by RandomThoughts
It was not directed at Donald, which is better form, interesting that he got Disney into the conversation, that is significant and a different topic then the Birth Certificate topic. So it does not have the form of distraction.

Because of the works Disney did, you can see the comment as a better comment, not about the person himself, but about the many stories and morale tales he helped tell to society, although not perfect, he addresses many better ways of thought and feeling in his stories.

49. The White House isn't even the host--the Correspondents Association is.
It's a tradition to invite the President and it would be VERY bad form for the Prez not to attend.

9. He is a man of the people
The upgrades won't come cheap for players. Although the improved course will still be open to the public — unlike Trump's other clubs,
which carry hefty $300,000 membership fees and annual dues of $15,000 — the privilege of playing 18 holes will set golfers back $195
to $300, course managers say

6. Bitching about the gala might work, if you hadn't gone! $5 gas.
Propose what should be done to drop the price now! Not drill baby drill, that might have minimal effect sometime in the future.

Big oil doesn't have to be charging us that much and everyone knows it. They are, because they can. Nothing at all from The Donald or any of the Teabaggers on what to do about it. If they don't want to lower the price, we need to MAKE THEM WANT TO!

26. Thank you for the link to the video. Does this mean Trump would send troops into Saudi Arabia?

I don't see how else Trump could prevent Saudi Arabia from raising oil prices.
How many troops will it take, who will pay for the invasion, and how long will it last?

Yes it is very "convenient" for that crowd to blame Obama for the manipulated gas prices.
Just as it is easy for Ryan to take away money for Seniors and give it to Oil Companies in the form of more tax breaks.

13. He didn't think he would get poked by the President?
Who the fuck is he kidding? These dinners are if nothing else very topical, they focus on whatever is in the news and Trump with the aid of his army of sycophantic media whores has busted his ass to be right in the middle of the news for at least the past two months.

He's either a liar or very naive. Did he think the president would lay off him because he, Trump, is such a figure of universsl respect and admiration? The guy's a joke, he always has been and all his self promotion has reminded anyone who forgot what a joke he was.

And now he's going to dig himself in even deeper because he just can't let it drop.

I just watched the entire speech by Obama. It was literally perfect. The opening with, "i am a real American" or whatever that song is combined with the pulsating birth certificate was hilarious. The test and the jabs were well written and delivered. The 'Lion King' piece was the best, imho.

The personal attacks on Obama are an outrage, disgusting, and dangerous. This response was comprehensive and in exactly the right tone - the purveyors of the lies are a complete joke.

Trump is done, stick a fork in him.
