Taiwan doomsday prophet's blog sparks panic
Source: BBC

Police in Taiwan are investigating a self-proclaimed prophet whose doomsday warnings on a blog have caused panic.

The man, identifying himself as Teacher Wang, said Taiwan would be struck by a magnitude-14 earthquake and 170m (560ft) high tsunami on 11 May.

More than 100 cargo containers have been bought and set up in a mountainous area of central Taiwan.

Police said they were investigating if the man had conspired with a container business to defraud people.

1. If there was ever a magnitude 14 earthquake, it wouldn't just
Edited on Sun May-01-11 11:46 AM by MineralMan
be Taiwan that would be in peril. Truly, the entire planet would be shaking. It's an exponential scale, not a linear one. Add five zeros to the power and destruction caused by the latest Japanese earthquake. A magnitude 14 earthquake would be a million times more powerful.

But, the guy's selling cargo containers, it seems.

4. Yes. I thought I've read that a magnitude 10 earthquake was the largest
earthquake possible. What schemes people don't invent to
cheat others out of their money!!!

3. One word:
Duct tape!

OK, that's two words.

Gullible!

That's the word, and did you know it's not even in the dictionary?

5. "Workers had been hired to fit them with doors, windows and air conditioning"
Seems alot of money for only a few days, assuming there won't be any power after a mag 14 quake and your windows would probably all break too.
