Is this not a discussion of DUers rather than ideas?
" I know the many here who have an irrational 24/7 hatred for Obama will not like this article but for those of us still working on "facts", it's a wonderful and insightful editorial."

I also noted in my second message to the moderators that the first paragraph singles out gblt media figures exclusively for vitriol, which is rather indicative of some unconscious biases, to put the most positive explanation forward. I'd hate to think that a DU progressive would do such a thing on purpose.

Thank you and happy holidays.

1. I tend to think that the editorial comment at the end was unnecessary.
It probably could have been shut down for that reason. But the thread has been open for a week now, so at this point I'm not sure we need to swoop in and protect everyone from the discussion.

2. I'm not sure of the dates I alerted on it, but it was before yesterday.
I'm not so worried about protecting people from one thread in particular, but more from the overall trend of that sort of editorializing, which seems a hallmark of certain posters. I'm wondering why my alerts on a clear cut rule break went unheeded. We keep getting instructions to alert instead of posting oppositional editorializing on flamebait OPs like the one I linked to. If alerts are getting pooh-poohed, then surely one can see how the inconsistencies can bring posters to the conclusion that it is better to "take matters into their own hands", as it were.

I would also like to underscore that in this case the liberal baiting was used as cover for gay baiting. I know that DU has been making institutional efforts to address homophobia, straight privilege, etc. I'm straight, but I find this kind of post that reinforces anti-gay bias with singling out the gay media to be the "troublemakers" tends to get reinforced here as a broad-brush attack on gblt posters here as all being troublemakers too. I don't know, maybe I'm not making my alerts clear enough.
