A weird URL thing when posting links to archived threads

I was posting a link to an archived thread and realized the URL was really long with embedded URLs from other sites. Here is the URL I got whether I copied from the address box in Firefox or copied the link location from the Permalink at the bottom of the message:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php/www//seattletimes.nwsource.com/counterpunch.org/www.travelblog.org/VC/www.fas.usda.gov/excredits/www//seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/www.fas.usda.gov/excredits/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=9728083&mesg_id=9728083

I can't get the entire URL to show - the forum software truncates it, but you can copy it from the active link.

Edited to ask - is it supposed to include all those other URLs and junk? Or is that just vestige advertising junk?

1. How did you get to the page?

Did you arrive at that page by following a link from outside DU? If so, all that junk in the link was probably added by a search engine or something. I don't think there's a reason why internal DU links would display like that. Sorry I don't have a very specific answer...

2. Through the Google SU Search at the top of the page

I edited the URL to post it into a message (it was a thread about aliengirl aka Tucker and if anyone had heard from her) and it worked once I pared it down.

Maybe it was the Google ads that should show on the page? Since I have a star and use Firefox with Ad Blocker, I never see the ads, so I wouldn't know what ads might have been there.

I just thought it was very weird.
