recommendations when combining threads

Is it possible to give at least the highest number of recommendations from threads when combining them.

For example, someone posts a story in LBN without a link and just a quote from CNN, the thread gets 15 recommendations. 30 minutes later a news story is posted and it only gets 2 recommondations, eventually both threads get combined and net recommendations is still 2 and maybe even hours later it hasn't even reached 5 for the Greatest Page.

1. At this point we're not sure if there is going to be a combine threads feature on DU3.

If we do eventually have one, I think we will certainly consider this.
