I would appreciate some clarity regarding "disruptors".
Edited on Wed May-11-11 12:14 PM by EarlG
I do not want to call anyone out by name; however, there is a particular person who was disrupting this very interesting thread:

(edited by Admin to remove link)

It is my belief that you will be able to ascertain rather quickly which person is the alleged (by me) disruptor.

In any case, I alerted the mods. However, other than one post from that person being deleted, I did not see a change in the person's attitude or frequency of posts. He/She continued to hi-jack the conversation for HOURS in a belligerent, combative, and even, at times, insulting tone toward many of those trying to have a discussion.

My question is this: What IS the comprehensive policy pertaining to that sort of thing? Isn't that the behavior of a disruptor or do I not understand the term properly?

I would really appreciate some clarity. Thank you so much for your time.

On Edit: I hope it is okay that I have given a link while asking about disruptors. If you feel a need to delete the link before making this thread public, I will understand. I didn't know any other way to show my confusion on the matter.

1. The policy is
that if you think someone is breaking the rules you should alert on the posts so that the moderators can take a look at them and if they agree with you then they'll delete the posts. But you shouldn't assume that the moderators will always agree with your perspective, nor should you assume that someone who has a post or two deleted will change their attitude or their posting frequency. Hope that helps.

2. It sort of helps. But to further clarify,
Edited on Thu May-12-11 12:35 PM by FourScore
if a person is belligerent and, well, disrupting the conversation, and the moderators have been notified -- how is that handled by the moderators in real time? Does the person receive a private warning (which may be a little frustrating to those of us who do not know that action has been taken)? I only ask because I have seen numerous instances whereby that sort of thing seems to go unabated. Obviously, if a person makes a counter-argument that is valid but different from others' views and continues to argue his/her point -- that's one thing (I experienced that in a discussion just yesterday). But it's entirely a different thing when there is a repetitive aggressiveness that permeates the discussion and goes on non-stop for the ENTIRE day. What happens then? That is more specifically my area of confusion regarding the policy.

Thank you again for taking the time to clarify this.

3. You have identified the limitations of our current approach.
Unless the person gets banned, they can keep acting like a jerk.

This problem will be remedied when we move into our new software later this year.

4. It is good to know that you all are aware of it
and that you are looking for remedies.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions.

:hi:
