I get the sense there will be from this response:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=437x2358I'd like to register my strong opposition to such an idea. From what I understand, one of the goals of the new software is to allow users more control over what they see. That sounds all well and good, but a 'hide' function gives individual users the power to determine what OTHERS see. I wonder if such a function could degrade the overall quality of the board by limiting access to the full spectrum of information and views here to a relatively select group of users (i.e., those whose opinions ruffle the fewest feathers).
Though I personally disapprove of 'ignore' and would never use it, I can see certain situations where it might be useful. But 'ignorers' are in the end mostly limiting their own access to information, while 'hide' is a different matter entirely. Even if I don't particularly care for a poster's set of opinions, I do see value in taking those views into account. I worry that a 'hide' function would limit my ability to do that and transform DU into a place where not all users have equal access to contents of the site.
Thank you for your time.
