WIll there be a 'hide' function on DU3?
I get the sense there will be from this response:

I'd like to register my strong opposition to such an idea. From what I understand, one of the goals of the new software is to allow users more control over what they see. That sounds all well and good, but a 'hide' function gives individual users the power to determine what OTHERS see. I wonder if such a function could degrade the overall quality of the board by limiting access to the full spectrum of information and views here to a relatively select group of users (i.e., those whose opinions ruffle the fewest feathers).

Though I personally disapprove of 'ignore' and would never use it, I can see certain situations where it might be useful. But 'ignorers' are in the end mostly limiting their own access to information, while 'hide' is a different matter entirely. Even if I don't particularly care for a poster's set of opinions, I do see value in taking those views into account. I worry that a 'hide' function would limit my ability to do that and transform DU into a place where not all users have equal access to contents of the site.

Thank you for your time.

1. I don't know.
If we do have it, there will be limits to curb its abuse.

2. Ok, well, allow me to register my strong opposition to the idea
Outside of a PM, if a DUer posts something, I believe anybody else permitted to participate in the site should have access to that information, whether the poster likes it or not.

That's my two cents. Thanks for the response.

3. You are not the only person who feels that way.
We understand that if we do something like this, we need to be very sensitive about how we do it.
