a question about the use of alert

I have seen recently where alert seems to be used as a punitive tool against posters with whom the "alerter" may disagree with in general, these would cases where comments are deleted days after they are posted have been replied to and discussed by the parties involved and moved on from or posts worded as questions but where the poster forgot the question mark so that technically the comment be called an accusation ect it would seem that this was not the intended use of alert but it has come down to this in some cases and alert being used in this manor could be a way of either simply 'racking up' deleted comments against poster leading to banning or fostering an atmosphere if intimidation on certain forums
any thoughts on this would be helpful

1. That is not an appropriate use of the alert function.

But fortunately there is a way to protect yourself from people alerting your posts and getting them deleted: Don't break the rules.
