I think that the temptation to take away the phrase "government run healthcare" out of the campaign next year is to big a temptation for a lot of congresspeople including ones that want the public option.
It shifts the burden for Republicans to explain why they were against a plan that ultimately gave them what they wanted.
Snowe has the biggest problem having already said that she is for it and would have voted for it if they had a trigger. Her vote against the health care bill creates the greatest human pretzel in Maine, and obviously she will vote for the bill she demanded simply so she doesn't get any primary challenger. Just as the left was centering on the Public Option as the only way to get health care done the right was saying that it was the only thing keeping it from being bipartisan.
Ever since last Monday's Senate vote they've been crowing that the PO is "dead" since "theres no way the Senate will vote for it" after reconciliation.
I think its time for the liberals in the House to put their feet down and tell the MSM they wont vote for a final version that fails to include a PO.
Im tired of this one way surrender by our (few) liberal Congress members.
They have just as much power to force a PO back in as the Blue Dogs have to keep it out.
