Poll question: Are violent video games and violent music at least partially responsible
for violent crimes in the US, seemingly by perps with absolutely no moral compass?

1. No, I have played violent video games since I was a kid as have my friends.

None of us have ever killed or mugged anyone.

Maybe some parents like to use that excuse instead of just facing the fact that their kids are bad.

2. No, I think its the lack of discipline in recent years
Children need to be taught right from wrong (and some manners) just like they need to be taught any other subject.

I know its uncomfortable to think about, but theres likely a correlation between the lessening and complete removal of disciplinary actions in schools the last 30 years and the rise in violence in those same schools.

4. If they were responsible....
Then I'd be a very different person than I am which is by all accounts a decent, moral, peaceful husband and father.

Parenting is responsible, not video games and not music or movies. My parents bought me some of the most insanely violent, depraved heavy metal when I was a teen and also were fine with me watching crazy violent horror movies when I was a teen. They knew I had a good sense of right and wrong and that everything stemmed from that.

That's not to say there aren't other factors that influence how one is able to be a good parent (most notably socioeconomic ones), but ultimate if a child does not have good guidance, a sense of right and wrong, and strong moral influence in their lives they will find negative influences anywhere and everywhere regardless of what music they listen to or what video games they play.

5. "...at least partially responsible". Yes, indeed, without a question.
It's not even an arguable point.

If a kid sees a violent act, in person or in an enactment, it WILL fucking have an influence.

I can't believe anyone would not see that.
