Imagine this post on the DU3 "Face it, Obama has really dropped the ball on most issues!!"....
And imagine 50 recs and no ability to unrec.

That is why we need unrecs back or no recs at all.

1. Indeed. The main thing wrong with the rec/unrec system is that you can't change your vote.
If you accidentally hit one you didn't mean to, it's locked in stone.

15. You mean you can't change your rec? Actually, you can.
When you hit rec, a little yellow box that says "undo" appears. If you hit that, you get your rec back.:-)

19. No, I meant on the DU2 rec system.
Make the DU2 system have reversible recs, or just be able to change from one to the other, and it's fine. Frankly, it's a mistake to get rid of unrecs in DU3, since some nonsense--and I'm thinking particularly of the anti-vaccine propaganda and other anti-science gibberish--needs to be unrecced.

With 75 recs.

Door swings both ways.

8. Imagine a post that says "All human beings deserve equal rights"
that is rec-ed by 50 votes and un-rec ed by 49.

There have been plenty of posts as uncontroversial as that unrec-ed here. That's why I think it's often used as a tool by trolls.

11. Then stop getting your content from "The Greatest" page
Just go to General Discussion: Presidency and browse the threads based on the order in which somebody has most recently replied to them. IMO it's by far the best way to surf an internet discussion board.

12. I never look at the Greatest page.
I go straight to Discuss to see the latest threads, then GD or GDP to see who is talking about what. Sometimes a lot of people will rec a thread even though few reply on it...that's about time the Greatest page serves much purpose.

14. The whole point of a discussion forum is to discuss
And the best way to sort threads based on whether or not discussion is currently going on in them is to sort by most recently replied to.
