Criticism of Obama Hawaii Vacation has been unfair, inaccurate and exaggerated
Edited on Tue Dec-06-11 02:14 PM by CreekDog
"17 day vacation" --often stated as "17 days off". Actually, it's more like 11 days off work -even though we know he actually does work and if there are legislative issues, he will stay in DC even if his family leaves first.

(4 of those days are on the weekend and 2 of them are Federal Holidays (12/26 and 1/2).)

"Hawaii". Those who don't think he should go to Hawaii would deny him the chance to go to his childhood home and be with his only surviving blood relative who lives there (his sister).

Yes, there are Americans that get no vacation time whatsoever --that's a travesty and unheard of among wealthy nations.

Yes, there are Americans who struggle so hard economically and work multiple jobs that they literally are employed everyday and for them a vacation, even if provided, is out of their reach. I think that's also a travesty.

But denying Obama or criticizing him for going to Hawaii for a couple of the holiday weeks with his family, to see his family and his childhood home is ridiculous. That said, if you must criticize it, be honest with your criticism. Remember if you need to embellish the criticism to make people take it seriously, you are misleading them.

6. No, but Bush always made sure he was photographed clearin' brush.
That made it seem like he was there to work on the ranch, not for rest and relaxation.

I don't think he's cleared any brush since he left office.

2. Pretty much standard procedure for criticism of Obama.
See how insanely out of proportion you can possibly make it, then go three steps further.

3. Don't they know he's never really on vacation?
The President is really never on vacation. He may not be in Washington but the job is 7/24/365. That's one of the reasons they all start the job with dark hair and end it with grey hair (except Regan who kept coloring it).

4. Look, he's black, and lots of folks even on DU just don't cotton to the idea
of FREE blacks who get things like vacations instead of slaving 24/7/365 until they die of overwork.

5. You guys needs to stop reacting to these numb skulls
I know it's really hard, but sometimes some things are best left to the

8. People in that job need vacations to keep them sane.
I never complained when Bush or Clinton vacationed and I never have when Obama does.

9. You’ll have to excuse the Obama family;
They don’t own Ranches in Texas, Villas in California or Mansions in Main.

So Christmas in Hawaii with family isn’t so bad ... yea think?

Bush's month-long vacations at his Crawford, Texas ranch

Oh, the hypocrisy!
