Unbelievable! Gingrich surge extends to New Hampshire--he and Romney in stat dead heat
The latest NH Journal poll of likely Republican primary voters conducted by Magellan Strategies shows Romney and Gingrich in a statistical dead heat for the January 10th primary. If the election were held today, Romney would earn 29% of the vote and Gingrich would earn 27%. Texas Congressman Ron Paul continues to show resolve by earning 16%. Herman Cain gets 10%. No other candidate is in double digits.

This is the first time any of NH Journal’s polls have shown anyone candidate even close to Romney. It also shows tremendous movement for Gingrich since NH Journal’s October survey, in which Gingrich was in third place, but at only 10% versus Romney’s 41%.

WHY GINGRICH IS GAINING

When asked why people felt Gingrich was moving up in the polls, 44% of respondents cited his depth of knowledge on the issues. Ten percent referred to his strong debate performances while another 6% said they liked that he was challenging the media in those debates. Ten percent referenced his past experience as Speaker of the House.

A close look at the data shows Gingrich is actually leading Romney among certain important subgroups of the electorate. Among self-identified conservative voters, Gingrich beats Romney 34%-27%. Among self-identified tea party voters, he leads Romney 38%-21%.

3. Agreed. NH has always been part of the grand strategy
Even if he wins just barely he is crippled. It would be like McGovern 'losing' to Muskie in '72 (it was so much closer than expected that even thou' Muskie won it was preceived that McGovern won) or LBJ winning NH primary in '68, but McCarthy doing so much better than expected that it was more like a loss for the president.

4. I hope that Gingrich and Romney enter into the type of nasty fight both are capable of
The winner - Obama. Both of them have very little likability and this could show both of them for what they are.

12. Yes, Gingrich could do what Perry could not do - tear open a new asshole for Mitt
So far, Gingrich has had a hands off policy towards Romney, almost like he's auditioning for his VP. But if Gingrich starts coming on, he would be capable more than any other of waging an ugly, nasty fight against Romney. That would be extremely fun to watch. Unlike Perry, Newt would have no problem absolutely nailing Mitt for all his flip-flops.

2. Teh Newtie will be OUT OF IT by March
Edited on Fri Nov-18-11 12:45 PM by SpiralHawk
Mark my words. He is the HOT REPUBLICON WANKER-Philanderer of the hour. But this, too, shall pass.

Republicon Family Cesspool Values -- as exhibited by teh Newtie & the other Candidate Cronies (R) -- just don't hold up over the long-term with decent, honest Americans. They want something honest and honorable, and the Republicons just ain't got doodley squat in that realm.

22. They're lieing to you.
Have you seen their selection...they're not throwing any election. Every single selection is piss poor and not one is better than the other. The only maybe worth some time is Huntsman but he's been shut out of this election from the get-go.

15. Yeah, but...
Newtie is essentially a hollow windbag. He 'sounds' like he knows whereof he pontificates -- but he is all puffery and zippo substance.

Even the RepubliBagger base - as lame and corrupt as they are -- will have recognized by March that Newtie's vacuous bleatings & bloviatings will sink like a lead pizza before the voters of these United States. He has no chance. Even if the Repubbies luv him for being a Bona Fide Chickenhawk Philanderer -- they will know that backing him leads only to -----> FAIL (R).

10. Who else would it be besides Gingrich? Teabaggers love him. They would have to get
someone to the right of Newt to make another appeal to the base now.

7. I wonder how wide that MOE is. I think a lot of people like to tell pollsters all kinds of stuff.
I'll bet if they push that poll and talk about blowjobs in the Speeeeeekah's office, the respondents might not feel so sanguine about their prospective President, or his First Lady.

8. NH is Romney's "Favorite Son" territory
This bodes incredibly ill for him.

On the other hand, is it likely that Gingrich's "surge" will last any longer (2-3 weeks) than any of the other "Not Romneys"? I doubt it. Romney may still win by total default, but that will mean a very weak general election candidate. The guy nobody wanted but there was really nobody else.

9. Now it really does look like Gingrich will be the candidate. Teabaggers like him and that's what
matters the most. He has some work to do on the Jesus and God part, but a visit to Bob Jones U. and some bible quotes and he is their man.

11. This proves once and for all;
Conservatives are willing to nominate anyone or anything to be The United State President … just to defeat President Obama. I has zero to do with being Presidential or the best person for the Job.

14. NH
If Romney loses there he Is done. His strategy IS dependent on him winning NH.If Gingrich can sustain his surge through Iowa and NH he stands good chance of winning
the nomination.

This shows Republicans don't like Romney, and really don't want to vote for him.Gingrich Is better for our side. And Obama/Gingrich debates would be Intresting.

23. Hmm. Maybe Mittens will offer Newt the VP and he'll back off.
Mittens will use Newt as his attack dog, first against the other candidates, then against the rest of us.

I was wondering who Mittens would pick for his VP, this may force his hand to make a deal.

26. Oh yeah--unlikeable and unlikeabler.
THERE'S a winning combination. Seriously, everyone views Mitt as a lying, aloof technocrat already--he doesn't wanna pick the only guy who will reinforce that image. He needs to pick a firebreather like Bachmann or Perry.
