Divide and conquer. It's what those in power do, regardless of party affiliation. As long as the infighting continues, no one pays attention to the fact all of us are getting screwed. It's all working as planned, don't you see?

2. But at least OWS has figured out that only 1% of the population gain
from all the divisiveness. That's a start.

If the 99% (and allies in the 1%) can work together...

4. "(and allies in the 1%)"
Actually, the status-quo is preserved by 99 percenters who believe that their 1 percenters are the "good guys."

6. So FDR was our enemy? If my dad was still alive I would have to tell
him that. He thought he was something else. Also what about progressive congress persons? What about KO and Rachel? What about many personalities who use their positions for good - Brad Pitt? George Cloney? And many others who speak out for what we stand for? If we keep kicking people out of the movement because they are not like us we are going to be a very small movement.

5. Fits nicely with America's over-arching "duality" scheme.
Whether consciously or not, most things at every level of American society are depicted as having two sides like that. Note our passion for sports (Rams vs. Patriots! Oklahoma vs. Texas!) where such expression is really obvious. But as you have noted, everything gets boiled down to this "A vs B" scheme, perhaps because it matches up with the basic notion of good vs evil. I wonder if human societies develop this trait because humans, as animals, have a subconscious need for such simplicity, and this either-or way of looking at things resonates with a primitive survival instinct, e.g. day/night; fight/flight; alive/dead. In any case, unfortunately, that need can be exploited to divide people into camps where camps would not otherwise exist. Shades of diversity can be cast as antithetical opposites by those with power who would benefit from the conflict.

Okay, that's my philosophical rambling for the day.

8. WRONG.
There IS a divide. Between right and wrong. And that fight MUST be won. Repukes are on the wrong side and always have been.

9. Bullshit.
There are real-world and important divisions between people who are doing right and those who are doing wrong. To play off what RFK said, even if 80% of Republicans are Democrats who don't know what's going on, as long as they're supporting that Republican machine we are not on the same side. Period.

10. Yes there are real divisions.

However, the HATE between whatever two sides we are talking about is media generated. We don't have to HATE each other.
