1. Don't agree.
I think it will be a reluctant vote for Romney.

3. They need to draft Ted Nugent
His crisp wit and presidential stature would lend gravitas to his candidacy. I can almost see Ted Nugent on stage, wide-eyed and gesticulating as he is prone to be, in a masterful debate with Perry and Bachmann. They need him BAD!

10. At least he's not a Mormon
Let's be honest, every candidate has issues that can be exploited. I think Newt has already been "vetted" so to speak and is well-liked among the powers that be in the Republican party as well as the RW talk show hosts. Plus, he can string together a few coherent sentences and has the appearance of "intelligence" that most of the other candidates lack.

In any event, I think Obama defeats any of them handily.

16. Not to a sizeable chunk of Republican voters
I think about 1/4 or so would disqualify a candidate on that basis alone.

7. I think that's possible. In fact I thought that in the beginning and then he appeared to flame out
when he suggested Paul Ryan's proposals about privatizing Medicare were going too far thus enraging the base. But maybe just like the way John McCain seemed to had fallen apart and then recovered - it is looking plausible that the same could happen with Newt. Recent polls have him running second in Iowa behind Cain. I think the reality of the Cain being an embarrassment - not only because of the accusations but because he keeps revealing that he doesn't know anything about anything. This might very well allow Newt to take Iowa and then it all begins. In some ways he passes the basic litmus test of the GOP base. He says plenty of crazy things but he can hold a conversations and even walk and chew gum at the same time.

12. Nope

The Republicans have proportional voting this time. So there isn't going to be any forcing out the field.

It will go to the convention. It will deadlock and they will 'discover' a GOP governor and reboot.

Who could it be?

Mitch Daniels

Jeb Bush

Mississippi Governor Barber

etc.

This is just a side show.

Primaries didn't work so they will go to the convention and start over.

15. Is that a fait accompli?
I actually thought Perry might "save the day" for the GOP when he entered the race and he flamed out fast. Maybe even people in the GOP don't want a repeat of having a Texan in the WH? Jeb would be tied to his brother who most people still blame for most of their economic woes and there's plenty of material that can be dug on Jeb to paint him as an extremist (i.e. Terri Schiavo). I don't know if he would do much other than add to the collection of nuts running for the GOP nomination.

14. 2012 is looking better for us every day
The right doesn't particularly like the candidate who is likely to be the eventual nominee and has the *best* chance of winning against Barack Obama in 2012 (Romney) and the candidates that DO excite the right stand absolute NO chance whatsoever in a GE campaign (everybody else). This isn't to say that we should just take President Obama's re-election for granted next year by any means, particularly when you consider the new electoral maps, pre-emptive attempts to disenfranchise likely Democratic voters, and other GOP shenanigans that they are likely to pull but I'm having a hard time envisioning a scenario where people are going to be eager to put Mitt Romney or one of the other loons running for office into the WH in 2012.
