Want to understand the Obama presidency? Watch "Blazing Saddles."
Edited on Wed Oct-05-11 08:47 PM by Brigid
That's right -- a movie that came out the year Nixon was run out of office is a near-perfect parody of our first black president's first term and what he has been dealing with. Think of the hostile townspeople as the teabaggers and other extreme Republicans for whom making his life miserable and denying him a second term seems to be their reason for getting out of bed in the morning. The Waco Kid could stand for the few real allies he has in the town of Rock Ridge, which, of course, stands for DC. Like Sheriff Bart, Obama deals with the situation with far more grace than most of us would (my favorite moment is when Sheriff Bart calmly replaces the "welcome" banner the townspeople had torn down when they got their first good look at him). Like Bart, Obama is smarter than most of those opposing him. Also, I believe that, as in the case of Bart, that opposition has more to do with race than anything else.

In the end, Sheriff Bart won over even the morons of Rock Ridge by coming up with creative ways to do his job. Obama has been trying to do the same, and in my estimation he has had more successes than failures. But will that be enough? Only time will tell.

3. You got that right! Perfect. The scene when the sheriff rode into town the
first time was hilarious - they reacted just like a lot of 'murcans did when Obama was inaugurated.

4. We need to get the voters to stop sending morons to Congress.
More needs to be done to show the voters what harm comes to them when they don't know or care who represents them.

The President is doing what he can with these road trips to push the AJA.
