I hope Michele Bachmann uses her assassination powers wisely
if she gets elected, I hope she doesn't get carried away with her power to target American citizens for vaporization.

In other words sane and mostly sane people.

3. Stop it with the exaggerative, hyperemotional bullshit.

Your premise resembles nothing of reality. There was legal grounds to go after Al-walaki because of concrete participation in the terrorist organization that carried out 9/11. Outside of those parameters, which is 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% of the country, no President or any other authority figure can just target you to be captured or killed.

George Bush had this same power. We didn't care for that very much. Many of us argued that Congress shouldn't have the right to give that to him. But he had it. It was his. Its never been overturned by the Supreme Court or Congress. Thus it still stands as the law. I recall Bush doing a lot of shitty things, but I don't recall him doing anything like what you are insinuating. Your premise is pretty much dead on arrival, based just on that fact alone.

4. and there will be similar "legal grounds" for everyone Pres. Bachmann decides to off
if "legal grounds" mean a bunch of people in her government says they did something really bad.

10. If you are that worried about it, then obviously, the legal grounds don't really matter.
If your concerns are valid, that a future President may be crazy and tyranical enough to commit such a perversion of power, then that person is going to be a major problem regardless of what the law is.

7. His point as I see it is that Bachmann is an extremist and an idiot.
Hyperbole and sarcasm are legitimate tools. This ain't a letter in The New York times.

The point of the joke will of course be lost if you disagree, but that's not what the post is about, really.

12. There was no way to determine how literal the OP meant his/her statement.
Many people are posting this same kind of crap and they seem to really mean it.

But as I just responded to the OP in another post, if the concerns are that someone like Bachmann would become President and start doing all this tyranical, crazy stuff, then whether or not Obama used AUMF granted authority to target a terrorist is fairly irrelevant. If Barack Obama and Anwar Alwalaki never existed or the AUMF never existed, the prospect of a Bachman like extremist going overboard with their authority and doing some very evil shit with it should be something to be concerned about regardless.

23. There have been other posts that I wouldn't respond to because of their absurd suppositions...
Edited on Tue Oct-04-11 11:26 AM by Kurovski
But Congresswoman Bachmann is herself the cue to comic absurdity here. She is delightfully ridiculous on so many levels that any joke is already half-written before the first key is struck. Coupled with the recent arguments here on DU, it's a great opportunity for us to blow off some steam and realise that we are not one another's enemies, even in the midst of savage disagreements. It's democracy in action.

She is getting nowhere near the presidency. She can be enjoyed for what she is, a comic book dinosaur choking on her own atmospheric gas.

So my friends, why not just enjoy? There are so many other authentic tragedies and injustices that are fully represented and argued.

EDIT: No matter the intention, the OP is easily transformed with humor into both a Bachmann idyll and a crack at ourselves for our remarkable ability to fight with one another (and a hit to the RW trolls who just show up to sow devisiveness for its own sake.)

5.  It's funny, but for the first time in my life I just noticed that the word "assassination" begins
with "ass ass".

The word's close approximation to Ms. Bachmann's name must have helped to cue my brain.

I think JeffR is one of the greatest DUers ever. When the revolution winds down, he will once again return to Paris in triumph...that is my prayer! :D

6. Well
"I hope Michele Bachmann uses her assassination powers wisely if she gets elected, I hope she doesn't get carried away with her power to target American citizens for vaporization."

...hoping that Bachmann does anything "wisely" is futile. Also, expecting her to be able to distinguish between actually terrorists from Americans who do not engage in terrorism will likely be as tough as it appears to be for those who aren't RW lunatics.

Example: Seven Face Terrorism Charges in N.C.

What would Bachmann do? I hope I never have to find out, and I doubt I will because she has as much chance of being the GOP nominee as Santorum, zero.

Mourning terrorists who dedicate themselves to advocating and pursing avenues to kill Americans doesn't make sense: Every American doesn't have the right to do that. Americans don't have the right to bomb the WTC, U.S. facilities around the world, etc.

If al-Awlaki or bin Laden were found hiding in someone's basement inside the U.S. they would likely not have met the fate they did.

9. obviously not
because they might kill American children by mistake. That would be utterly unacceptable. Imagine if something like that happened. Killing Yemeni, Pakistani, Somali innocent children? Not as much of an issue. You have to break some eggs, etc.

...are you attemtping to introduce a non sequitur to claim unprecedented action by President?

I mean, is the whole idea to ignore that the military actions of every President result in casualties in order to claim that killing a terrorist makes this President just like Bush?

18. That's why this "loaded gun" should never have been given to the President.
Even if you think Obama will use the weapon wisely, there's no guarantee that some day a crazy person won't be sitting in the Oval Office. THen, watch out!
